Mama’s Easy Pie Crust

Pie Crust

(Makes about 3 single crust or 1 1/2 double crust)

2 2/3 cups flour

1 cup of shortening (I use butter flavored)

1 tsp. Salt

½ cup ice cold water

Cut flour, shortening and salt together until it resembles tiny crumbs.  Continue to mix and add water until dough forms a ball.  Do not over mix, this will make a tough crust.  Separate dough into 3 balls and roll out and place in pie plates.

Tips:  to roll out and easily transfer to a pie pan.  Wet your counter top slightly with a damp cloth or sponge and then place plastic wrap a little bigger than your pie crust will be on the wet surface.  The wet surface will keep the plastic wrap in place while you roll out your dough.  Now place your pie crust ball in center on top of the plastic wrap and press down slightly.  Then place another piece of plastic wrap on top of your dough ball.  Place rolling pin in center and using light pressure press down and roll your pie crust into a circle.  Pull plastic wrap off top of crust and place your pie pan upside down on top of the crust, then just slip your hand under the bottom layer of plastic wrap, find the center of the pie pan and flip crust over.  Now carefully remove the plastic wrap and trim your crust.  It’s easy!
